Look on the bright side - it can only get better right? PLUS wasn't last year a year of transitions for you? IT hardly counts!
It's not nearly as depressing as knowing you made a pretty good amount of money last year and have absolutely nothing to show for it.
I can commiserate. When we had ours done in February, we realized my husband made about $4K less in 2005 than in 2004. That was because of slow times at service departments in new car dealerships. It sucks! We also felt just how hard the bite of insurance really is. There was over $7K taken out for insurance. Low wages - for whatever reason - can sure be a buzzkill.
What happened with that young girl? Not even a word on the subject...Did you go for it? Or did you use the freshman/first grade thing as a deterrant??
